Wanda Oliver

I am an experimental photographer living near Dallas, Texas. In 2008, my daughter taught me to use her digital camera. Until then, I had had no interest in photography at all. I was focused on slab built ceramic tile and sculpture. To my surprise, I fell completely in love. After several years using only digital methods, I began to dabble in historic processes. A friend teased that I was working backwards in photography, and I was. The chemistry, the physical, the material seduced me. My practice is centered in a sense of mystery and awe. In the chemigram process I find that sense in the dance of light and chemicals as the resist wears away and the paper records the very process itself - that instant, that reaction, never to be repeated exactly, absolutely unique and ephemeral - I find it magical.
